Hopefully the Toyota dealers stop their rip-off practice of charging above MSRP for hybrids and start offering deals BELOW MSRP to make sal
I looked at the Nissan Versa hatch-back. Very nice looking/feeling car--and the deals were good. The one thing lacking is the cash.............:)
Definatley looking for a new car, if not two. Wifes 07' Honda Odyssey minivan already had two transmission rebuilds as well as having dvd player relpaced, rotors replaced, dash rattles at even a hint of a bump. All of this before the 20k mile mark. My Toyota Camry blew its engine at 18k miles due to Toyota's famous engine sludge cover up. We are planning a cross country trip this summer and I need something reliable. I will not be looking at anything with a Japanese nameplate. Toyota and Honda dealers must have monkeys working back there. Everytime something needs to be fixed. parts have to be shipped from Japan or takes weeks to fix. I'm fed up with all of the run-a-round. Probably looking at a Chrysler Town and Country for my wife and a Fusion or Malibu for myself. Everyone I talked to loves their new Town & Country. New Fusion hybrid beats out Camry (not that I would go that route again) I love the styling of the Malibu though. Tough call, won't be an Asian brand though.
Troll. How does it feel to be working for a car company about to go under?
As if everyone buying a car didnt hear that for years to come this country will be dealing with an everlasting and growing deficit that puts me as such unease that we have to rethink how we spend each and every penny! I am really struggling just to keep my job and pay for my home and car loans much less even think of buying a car. Those people must be the ones that can afford paying alittle more in taxes.
Modern cars must be designed by Microsoft. Junky, clunky gadgets everywhere, overly complitaced, delicate, failure prone systems. They cost too much to purchase for what they deliver, cost way too much to repair, and break for too frequently. My wife just had to have a PRIUS, 3 years in, what a POS. Gas mileage steadily falling, indictes to my engineer's brain that the battery is loosing its ability to accept or hold a recharge. Sure am looking forward to the cost of that fix! For the mileage it's currently getting she could have bought a Corolla for a lot less money. This is after she had to have a Mazda 6, another expensive to keep short lived junker. I just don't understand her fasination with foreign made junk.
I drive a 1989 GMC S-15 with a 1995 Z-28 Camaro engine and driveline I put into it. It passes emissions, is very fast, I've made a competent handler and stopper out of it. Inexpensive to keep and fun to drive, can be worked on by me when it's necessary. I don't have to wait for expensive parts to arrive that only the dealer can work on. I rather think it is a blueprint Detroit should follow rather than that overpriced overcomplicated and always broken GTO version 2.0 they foist on people.
RJH
I really, really want a top of the line Saturn Sky!
Completely agree Bumblebee! I remember the first time I saw that car and couldn't believe it was a Saturn. SexY!
I will be looking at the offerings from Chevrolet. Dont care for any of the Jap crap. American cars have history. When is the last time you heard of a Asian classic? Also have you ever heard of a Jap car at barrett and jackson?
LOL! Imagine a 1970 Toyota Corolla sitting on the auction block next to a 1970 Mach 1 or a Boss 302
Yes I do imagine. The Corolla is a much better car.
Toyota Corolla and Mach1 is kinda like apples and oranges. I can surely see a 1970 Datsun 240Z, 1600 or 2000 Fairlady Roadster in the "Classic" catagory and holding their own in any auction.
I want super high MPG or non oil CAV or EV. Why can't they bring back the Geo Metro. I would by a sub 10K car that got 40 mpg car and pay cash. But no one offers it.
I agree!!! Most people I know drive 40 mi to work every day. Why in the heck would you want to pay 25 grand for a car your going to push into the pavement? 2 years latter its not worth a thing. Need a cheap beater with a heater.
I need to replace my Dodge mini-van. Leading contender is the Ford Flex. Love the look!
I see a lot of people trashing Asian-made cars here. But it's okay for them to drive big American gas guzzlers that keep America dependent on Middle East oil? What a joke!
I bought my first Japanese car ever 3 years ago and have not once regretted it. My Prius, despite the criticisms above, has held up beautifully with no breakdowns, no decrease in gas mileage, and no high-tech gadgetry that's difficult to operate. It gets 45 mpg on the highway and higher in the city.
If I buy another car, it will be one that gets even better gas mileage--whether it's a Ford, Chevy, or new and better Prius. Don't be duped, folks. Gas prices WILL go back up. They always do.
Almost every one I know commutes at least 40 mi day. 4 I know use the Malibu they have 200,000 mi on them and every mechanic knows how to keep them running. All got them a year old lease return for about $13,000 or so. Petty smart dupes I would say.
i'm waiting for the CAV to come out
Buy a used Volvo or Mercedes at a deal and they will last longer than any American made vehicles in the same class hands down. American made cars are crap. I think that wherever the best things can be bought then we ought to buy even if it means putting our own companies out of business. We need to think about our own interests and whats best for the people like drug costs and getting cheaper drugs out of country or from Canada. Go where the best car, drug,or product is and buy that.
I've worked on all of the foreign cars that I ever want to see! They are deffinetly more expensive to repair, I can't compete with parts prices to offer customer a better repair price, and they fail like any other car. Planned obselessence of belts, hoses, altenators, starters that are not suitable for conditions here in America, much less the time consuming shop time to do same repairs required for any car made any where. I love America, born here, fought for it over "there" and will again if nessasary!

they can shove 'em !!
I need to stay with what I have for as long as it will last. As a widowed mother of two who was barely making ends meet before the economy tanked, I cannot commit myself to more debt when things are so precarious. I think I am like many Americans--"turtleing" by pulling in and protecting myself inside my shell and trying to ride this out! A big new purchase is the last thing on my mind. If (God forbid) my 10-year-old minivan dies, I will have to see the cheapest, best deal I can find on a used car--no matter who made it. I feel American-made should come first, but if they can't provide something decently competitive, they leave us no choice but to look elsewhere. This is a long-overdue wake-up call to US automakers. I hope it is not too late.
I would buy a GM brand Opel, Chrysler brand diesel Smart Car, or an European Ford; but never any of the crap Detroit is trying to palm-off on North America toay! Bring in the automobiles I want, now; not the cheap gas guzzlers on the showroom floors. I want 50 mpg at least. I am in the market and I have CASH - I am going to VW for a look.
Oh by the way, file for bankruptcy; that's what I had to do when I lost my knees, my job, and wife was diagnosed with cancer. No hand-out help from Washington was offerred to me. I was told "tough" and deal with it. Detroit's filled with a bunch of whiners.
Now own a 2004 Dodge Truck (65K miles) and a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (45k miles) - not interested in anything until I know if America is going to survive this economic down turn.
Many carmakers have come and gone. To bail out those who've steadfastly refused to build a durable and sensible car while for DECADES those who did stole their marketshare is nobody's fault but their own. Furthermore, many of last year's cars sit unsold on the lots (those which are still in business) while over 1.5 million have been sold and repossessed as their owners steadily lose their income, so just where do they expect their customers to come from? I say let them sink or swim on the virtue of the product they produce and the market they operate in. To those who knock the import cars (particularly Japanese) remember that many of their models are built here now. I have 2 Japanese built Corollas with over 600,000 miles total and still used daily. My dad used to say "As goes GM, so goes the USA". Well, that seems to be pretty accurate, doesn't it? And whose fault is that.
I own 3 Jap cars a 1992, 1993, and a 1997, all bought used, I would very much like to buy a hybrid or a high MPG auto, but to have to pay a stiff premium above MSRP is out of the question. Detroit needs to make cars that are reliable and will last well way beyond the end of the last payment. By the way thoes CEO's have more than enought money in the bank to keep Detroit running.
Free Public Transit. And cheap Solar Powered cars.
====
In every American city you see gridlock of commuters, one to a vehicle! We can do better than that! Mass transit has got to be the answer, either now or wait until we completely run out of oil. The sad part of falling oil prices is how quickly we lose our enthusiasm for fixing the problem.
