Pet elk denied re-entry to Pennsylvania from W.Va.

ALEPPO — A runaway elk can't go home to Pennsylvania, even if it wanted to.

More than a year after the 3-year-old elk escaped from his paddock, he's being denied re-entry to the state from West Virginia.

George and Sharon Richter want the animal back but state officials say they're worried it could be infected with chronic wasting disease, a highly contagious and fatal neurological disease.

So far, the disease hasn't been found in Pennsylvania. The only test for the disease involves killing the animal.

The Richters tell the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ( http://bit.ly/zdbCmK) the elk and two others escaped their Aleppo, Greene County farm when a gate was left unlocked. One elk eventually returned but the other hasn't been found.

Officials say the elk is currently being fed by residents in the area of Pleasant Valley, W.Va.

So, they can't transport the animal across the state line. What if it was trucked to fifty feet from the line and then walks across on it's own (a bucket of grain MIGHT be a motive to do so) ??? Wild deer and such cross the line every day!

Just wondering...

Excellent idea, Rockwater. They'd best not publicize it, though, or the local officials might be waiting with their rifles and a form letter to find the results of their test on the animal.

We need to get some of these PA Wildlife Officials down in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Southern California. We might be able to end that illegal immigration problem after all.

Jimmy, your suggestion "could" work, that's why it'll never happen...

Well we had a slaying in Oklahoma City with the markings of being a Cartel Hit. They just keep moving North. They have killed reporters, random people, and LEO's, but when the News gets scared of reprisal nothing is said.

They wouldn't be able to put it back in their preserve. At this point, it's considered "wild" and the game commission in this "wonderful" state would have their asses on a platter if they tried to put it back into "captivitiy"

Then, how does one obtain an elk for a preserve - except by capturing a wild one?

You have to purchase them from a certified breeder.

I don't want nobody breeding my elk. That is just strange.

Jimmy, breeding is OK, but mounting is taboo. :D

Oh, my bad. I thought...nevermind. Still I want my elk free range with a little parsley and sage.

definitely garlic, and onion and potatoes. IDK about the lemon pepper, tho.

Lemon Pepper is a fine idea, especially if you are going to do a roast. Gives it a little citrus flare. I would suggest using cracked pepper and fresh lemon zest though. It is so much better that way.

How about nice tenderloin medallions, grilled. With grilled potatoes with peppers, onions and garlic?
